    Sound is amazing. I have the HS8 monitors and just got the subwoofer to complement those and all I can say is wholely Crap! OMG! It s pricey no lie but, if you can afford to, Get The Subwoofer! WOW!I m in awe. 5Really great, accurate monitors. Great monitors. I was worried they would be too small for my needs, but turns out, they have more than enough power and are crystal clear. I have them hooked to my Yamaha Montage 8 which is a great synth so they pair up nicely. I hooked them to a mid range synth that I have and that is when I really noticed how sub par the sounds coming out of that keyboard were compared to the Montage.Really great, accurate monitors. 5These speakers are the best you can get at this price range These speakers are the best you can get at this price range. They are very clear and accurate in the high and mids but severely lacking in the low end. If you make bass intensive music you WILL NEED the sub woofer. 4they look good, and they sound good I would compare these favorably to powered monitors of similar price ranges. I've owned a few others and these are my favorites overall in this range. They're an ideal size, they look good, and they sound good. To top it all off, they have XLR inputs, which is a must.Sure, they are not as good as super fancy tower speakers, but their clarity and overall range of sound is pretty good for desktop applications. 5I like the room control and trim options as I do ... These things truely live up to the reputation. They are so clean. As an electronic music producer I wanted clean, accurate, and precise sound. I have found comfort in these. I like the room control and trim options as I do not have a treated room for producing. If you're looking for some non enhanced studio monitors for production perfection or you want them simply for entertainment.... these will suffice and more! 5Already Broken **EDIT** I may have fixed this issue by unplugging my computer and audio interface from the same socket that my router is plugged into. If that is the fix, then that wouldn't be an issue with Yamaha and the HS8s, and since these felt like a huge upgrade from my KRK Rokits, I'm giving them 5 stars. I don't think you could beat them for the price.These monitors have only sat on my desk since I got them in July 2018 (5 months ago) and they are already creating an annoying buffeting noise. With nothing plugged into them they still make the noise.I'm really disappointed considering how highly recommended these monitors are. I feel like Yamaha just took my money. 5If you are an engineer - look no further OMG! I own HS80s which is the older/larger versions of these guys and OH MAN does it sound the same. Of course sub 100hz isn't as juicy but I got these because my space changed and is much smaller (30-50 sqf). I did a shootout with these, KRK 5's, XR 624's (couldn't find the MRMK3's), JBL LSR305's, and some Genelec 8330A's. I will say the Genelec's won the shoot out by a good stretch. Problem is the Genie's are like 800 bills a piece. These Yamaha's may not have had the low end response the Genie's had but man are they much more clear than the rest I listed. Most of the others have a very colored sound, mainly dipping the mids. The HS5's were the flattest of the bunch. it's worth the $100 bucks more for these guys over the rest. DO IT! It's worth the hassle of sending back if you don't like them. 5Nice flat sound Nice flat sound. I got rid of some KRKs for these. The KRKs were too base heavy. These are pretty close to true flat for the price. 5Incredible pure sound... What can I say? These are incredible. Sound is clear, pure and 100% neutral. Every nuance of a mix you hear. Amazing to go back and listen to things you heard for years... you hear them in a whole new way. You can appreciate all the nuance of every mix...Blows away any other 5" studio monitor I've heard. Bass is pure and clear. If you want a pair of monitors these are it. Forget the others. Hands down. Such a great price for the quality. Buy isolation pads while you're at it and allow burn in for a few days... 5Translation Is Everything I have used many types of studio monitors, but these things are amazing, you just dial in the sound you want and they translate it to the next set of speakers you play your mix on, absolutely amazing, and can't beat the price. I am so glad I demoed these in a store first, I instantly could hear the problems with the other monitors that were on display, these are so colorless it makes mixing and mastering effortless. Really check these out, I've had much more expensive monitors and could never get the sound the way I wanted it to be. No wonder their big brother the NS-10's are in every studio in the world! 5
