Customer Reviews

Don't waste your money Glad i bought a single instead of the multi pack i considered. This thing was a WORTHLESS PC OF JUNK, waste of time and $$. Difficult to get open, difficult to get closed. Once installed it's never supposed to come un"locked". Used as a fix on my 20 yr old leather jacket. Zipped up once, down once and was gone completely frim the zipper when i put the coat on again an hour later. Who knows what happened to it but it clearly fell off somehow which tells me that hard to secure "lock" was useless. 1DON'T buy this product - waste of money This product sounds great, and when you first apply it to the broken zipper, it does work.....until it falls off. They don't tell you that you MUST get the shrink wrap plastic (at an extra cost, not included) to secure the ZipperMend in place. It fell off about six times when I was zipping the zipper on my winter coat, and then finally was lost, even after I secured it with a pair of pliers! I would definitely NOT recommend this product. Too bad. It sounds like a good idea, and it did work for the few minutes it stayed on the broken zipper. They need to fix the design so it stays in place or include the shrink wrap to secure it. They really should recall this product until they fix the design. 1saved my bacon, but some flaws this has rescued my $300 jacket with a broken zipper from getting completely discarded, so it has my immense gratitude. But it's got a few minor flaws, if I could I'd give this 3.5 stars. The main issues (some functional, some just annoying):1) At one point, it came undone on it's down when I was pulling hard. I saw someone who had a solution where they had shrink wrapped around it to prevent this, I like that idea and may try it, but this should be an inherent part of the product.2) there is no "pull", so it's hard to actually pull on my zipper with gloves on (which is when you're usually pulling on your winter coat zipper)3) The design sits perpendicular to my broken zipper, so it kind of dangles sideways off the zipper pull. Not a huge deal, but it'd be nice if you could choose whether to get a horizontal or vertical hook, or rotate somehow. 3Temporary Life to Broken Zippers This little piece of hardware is a hinged scissor mechanism that will rehabilitate a malfunctioning zipper. If your zipper pull breaks off but the bail or lug loop is still intact this device will clamp onto the slider to replace the old pull. I used it to replace the pull on a leather motorcycle jacket that is very stiff to pull.Update:2-23-16It is not holding up well. It opens when pulling up or down. In fairness the zipper pull is being used on a very heavy leather jacketUpdate: 1-30-17I wanted to share my last experience with the failure of this Zippermend product and why I removed the last star. Of course it failed while on a freezing cold motorcycle ride. My advice to you is to repair or replace your zipper and have it done by a professional. Don't trust a cheap gimmick such as the Zippermend. 1Looked good with my coat, lasted 4 months I got one of these to extend the life of a coat. It had lost a zipper pull (still had the zipper bracket) but the coat was otherwise in good shape. Installation was simple and quick, and this blended in with my black coat very nicely, but you could tell from the design that it wouldn't last forever. Specifically, it closes like a clamp then locks shut, so there is a break in the metal loop at the top, exactly where the stress is applied when you pull the zipper up or down. It looks as if some competing products don't work the same way and thus don't have a break right at that location. In any case, I didn't expect it to last forever, but it was very inexpensive and matched my coat so I bought it anyway, and was pleasantly surprised to find that it lasted 4 months of daily use. Then it fell off and I didn't notice and I lost it. For the price, it's a fine product. Another review suggested adding a shrink tube cover which might help even more. But I'm trying a different zipper pull replacement 2nd time around. 4Solved the problem of a broken pull on a daily ... Solved the problem of a broken pull on a daily work, rough use winter coat! I put in on, squeezed it with a pliers to ensure it was locked, and then applied a few drops of crazy glue to the seams and pivot as insurance to make sure it stayed closed. The glue wicked inside and cannot be seen. The pull has been on the coat for a few months now and it's working 100% as expected with no signs of it opening, failing, or falling off. I would not hesitate to order this exact same item to fix another broken pull. Besides crazy glue, a small piece of shrink sleeving would probably work just as well if you wanted extra insurance that the device would not accidentally open up and get lost. 5Saves money. Easy to install. I ve been using a paper clip as the zipper pull on my expensive leather jacket for too long now. This was just what I needed. I also put some shrink wrap on it after reading the reviews because the design looks like it may come apart at some point. The shrink wrap also made it look closer to the cooler of the leather which was a bonus. 5With shrink tube added it should never come apart and adds a nice plastic feel to zm Worked on my Joe Rocket motorcycle jacket. Tip, used a piece of shrink tube over zipper pull and heat gun to shrink tight. ZM did click using needle nose pliers, used smooth part of needle nose so not to leave teeth marks or damage zm. With shrink tube added it should never come apart and adds a nice plastic feel to zm. 5Saved my zipper Great product that does just what it says and is sturdy. It replaces the zipper tab on my suitcase which was unceremoniously yanked off by an airline, which also amputated my super-duper luggage tag. It is a metal tab that arrives in the open position kind if like a pair of scissors, then you place the open end where your original tab used to be and then close it tight with a pair of pliers. It locks in place, nice and secure. Easily worth the 5-bucks-plus, since a trip to the luggage repair place would cost 3-4 times that. One note, though, don't monkey around with it to see how it closes before you actually install it on your suitcase. If you inadvertently latch it, the only way you'll get it off is with a hacksaw. (Or by checking your bag on the plane...) 5and thought 'this will work out great! ' For this kind of design to work reliably, it would need super-precise manufacturing tolerances. Maybe mine is a dud, but it won't stay latched closed as some others have reported. It is assembled of two (die cast?) metal halves in a scissor configuration, and has a small catch in the end opposite from the zipperslider, that gives a satisfying 'click' when pushed closed with plyers.I put it together, and thought 'this will work out great!'. Wrong. 2nd test pull, the thing opened itself up and came off.'Maybe I didn't latch it fully?' Nope, it was closed properly. I had clicked it solidly into its fully closed position, but any force on the little 'jaws' from normal use would make it open right back up. This one may work somewhat better where the slider has a large hole for the zipper tab attachment. Mine just barely has enough space for the ZipperMend's cast jaws to pass through.Another reviewer put heat-shrink tubing on his to keep it shut. That sounds like a viable solution, but then again, so would some heat shrink tubing and a big paper clip.I just ordered a package of "Zip Fixers" to try out another solution... Irrespective of the problem with the ZipperMend staying closed, I'm hoping that the Zip Fixer's wire loop does better with the specific zipper I'm trying to fix. 2
